REVIEW: Lush Superbalm

Dandruff. It's not pleasant is it? Embarrassing little white flakes of skin that linger in your hair despite the fact that you wash it every other day and have tried every remedy in the book- including that weird one pouring vinegar on your hair that leaves you smelling slightly like a chip shop for the next 12 hours. I have struggled with Dandruff for the past year or so; my skin and scalp react badly when I get stressed and because of this I have had a lovely case of 'stress spots' on my cheeks and an itchy irritated flaky scalp. It's fucking horrible.

I was at my wits end around October time when my scalp and face had flared up to a point that was making me uncomfortable going out in public. My scalp was so irritated that I was having to wash my hair every single evening in order for it to not itch like mad. This was actually so bad it was stopping me from sleeping if I didn't wash my hair before bed. Before you suggest it, I had tried every shampoo and conditioner combination, nothing worked.

It was at this point that I decided to visit Lush and sort myself out I picked up Superbalm and a pot of Herbalism (review here). I immediately went to work with it massaging the paste - that quickly turns into oil under the warmth of your fingertips - into my scalp being careful to avoid as much of my hair as possible (as the girl at Lush had warned me that this can be tricky when washing out). I then left it on for 20 minutes and enjoyed the relaxing scent of lavender whilst my scalp was feeling nice and cool. In this stage try not to be around any other humans as you do look like you haven't washed your hair in a fortnight, it's not pretty. I washed it out using my normal shampoo (The Body Shop Rainforest Balancing Shampoo) and low and behold that itchy tight feeling I was so used to wasn't there... and guess what, it wasn't there the following evening either. In just one use my scalp problems had dramatically improved. I continued to use this every time I washed my hair for a fortnight and now I use it once or twice a month to keep my scalp happy.

I would not ever be without this product. I swear down if Lush ever discontinue this I will protest.
The ingredients are as dreamy as ever with a Lush product including gems such as:

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Salicylic Acid
Rose Wax
Lavender Oil
Chamomile Blue Oil
Rose Absolute

If you struggle with dandruff, itchy scalp, dry scalp or any scalp irritations, I highly recommend this product. It is a miracle in a tin and it's another Lush product that I just couldn't do without.

  1. Thank you so much for writing this post! I get reaaaaallly bad flakes on my scalp too. The only thing that's ever solved it for me is T Gel shampoo, but I get through it so quickly and at £7 a pop it soon gets expensive. This sounds like such a great alternative that will probably last longer looking at the quantity of product! I will have to give it a try.

  5. I didn't even think to look at Lush products to help me. I have such an itchy scalp and I've tried everything. I used to think it was me being stupidly allergic to every shampoo/conditioner I was trying. I can't wait to try this!

    1. I think they are often overlooked when it comes to haircare and skincare so don't worry you're not alone! Hopefully it helps you! I know how detrimental a severely itchy scalp is and its not nice!! Good luck!! xx
