As Britain is currently going through a rather unusual heat wave, I thought this would be the perfect time to talk to you about the importance of suncare for your skin (especially the particularly fragile and prone to ageing skin on your face!). Now we are all good at putting a factor 30 on when were on holiday but how many of us actually put that on our faces? And if you do spread that little bottle of sunshine on your face then how often does it break you out the next day?
After being fed up of this dismal choice one year, I decided to head on out to my local boots and peruse their latest offerings for suntan lotion that was specifically designed for your face. I found La Roche-Posay's Anthelios XL Melt-in cream and after hearing some good reviews I decided the bite the bullet, cough up the cash and go for it. The Anthelios XL range is specifically designed with faces in mind and their range shows this with a variety of formulas that are each different in order to suit different skin types and to make sure everyone is getting what they need from the product. The melt in cream that I picked up (unknown to me at the time) is pretty much the worst formulation for my own skin as this stuff is thick! It's VERY moisturising and I found it broke me out, but I persevered with it for 2 reasons... 1. It's not cheap and 2. I would rather have a few blemishes than sun damage.
However, this summer the lovely girls over at La Roche-Posay offered me the opportunity to test out 2 more of their range that would be much better suited to my Oily/Combination skin. These are the Fluid and the Dry Touch Gel Cream. *
First let's talk about the Fluid*. As with the others this is a factor 50 SPF that not only protects UVA but also UVB therefore making sure that your skin is covered and you wont have to keep reapplying your suncream (this makes the Anthelios XL range a perfect base under makeup as you can apply once and then effectively forget about it!). The Fluid is as you would expect very liquid and is super light, If my skin is feeling more combination, I will use this SPF as it offers a perfect amount of moisture to my dry areas without making the oily areas greasy. You honestly don't even feel like your wearing anything with this, making it a perfect SPF for people that don't like to feel they have product on their face or just want something quick and easy!
Next we have the Dry Touch Gel-Cream* which is somewhere in between the Melt-In Cream and the Fluid in texture. However, it definately has a gel-like quality to it, I have been loving this SPF right now as I'm having lots of breakouts over my cheeks (unusually as my cheeks are normally dry and spot free!) and this is offering me the sun protection I need without aggravating the blemishes that are raging over my cheeks! This is also a Anti-shine formula meaning it is perfect for those of us with Oily skin who suffer from 'The Dreaded Shine' about 10 minutes after we've stepped outside!
Overall I can't praise La Roche-Posay enough, they have really thought about the different needs of different people and the range is in my opinion brilliant.
You can purchase these from Boots for around the £15 mark, but you can't really put a price on the health of your skin and the protection from the damaging sun so head on out and pick one of these up and let me know what you think!
