Top 5 Books I Highly Recommend You Read This Summer

I love a good book recommendation post, don't you?

Whether you're swanning away to a sunny destination or staying at home and spending your weekends in an immaculate garden, there is nothing better than having a good book to keep you entertained whilst you switch off from the world and relax.

Today I thought I would share my top 5 books for this summer to suit anyone and everyone.

The Bees - Laline Paull
The Bees by Laline Paull follows the life of a bee "Flora 717" and her hive. This unusual perspective makes the read gripping and full of thrills as you imagine yourself in the unusual world of The Bees. Flora 717 is at the bottom of the hive and through a series of unexpected turns she manages to work her way to the top of the pecking order only to find out that things aren't quite as they seem.

A Darker Shade of Magic - V.E. Schwab
I struggle to write collective book posts without including this book. Apologies if you've read me ramble on and on about this book multiple times but it truly is a fantastic read. It follows the story of Lila and Kell - the cross-dressing pirate and a coat-changing traveller.

NOD - Adrian Barnes
A dark piece of literature. This apocalyptic piece follows Paul who has awoken to a world that no longer sleeps. As the sleep deprivation sets in so does madness and Paul finds himself amongst the few that can still sleep. Paul seeks to discover why and how this is happening only to be faced by multiple difficulties and hard decisions. Not a light read, but this book will stick with you due to it's intensity. Be warned though the language and imagery is very violent and could possibly pose as a trigger.

A Court Of Thorns And Roses - Sarah J. Mass
A captivating fantasy that sucks you up and forces you to keep on reading. A Court of Thorns and Roses is loosely based around the story of Beauty and the Beast, but do not think that this limits it. This story is fantastic with more twists and turns then a twisty turny thing (As my dad would say!). The plot twist at the end is mind blowing and I honestly can't criticise it at all. To say I'm obsessed would be an understatement. What's even better is that there is a sequel that is out NOW.

The DUFF - Kody Keplinger
If you're looking for a light read, maybe your going on holiday and want something to read on the beach or you're just looking for something a little silly then this is the book for you. The DUFF was recently made into a film which although funny in it's own right is nothing like the book. The book is emotional, funny and heart warming and a really nice easy read for those carefree summer days.

I really love reading this time of year and I think most people enjoy picking up a book in summer even if it's just for something to occupy your mind whilst your relaxing on that sandy beach in the Mediterranean or chilling in your garden back home!
I hope you've found a couple of books to go out and grab for the sunny weather and let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations for me.

  1. I've read Vicious by V.E. Schwab and I've heard loads of great things about A Darker Shade of Magic but never really checked what the book is about. Just the mention of a cross dressing pirate has sold it to me.
